For Local Makers & Craftspeople
How do I get listed?
+
Head to genesislocal.org/app/add-maker and complete the quick form. Your profile goes live right away. A neighbor may also add you, and a few launch areas may include clearly labeled starter profiles from trusted public sources. The listed email receives a secure link to claim and edit the page.
Does it cost anything?
+
Genesis Local is free for farmers, artisans, growers, bakers, and craftspeople. No listing fees, no commissions, no premium tiers. The goal is to help local food systems thrive, not to extract money from the people doing the work. Nobody can pay to show up first.
Can I respond to a neighbor vouch?
+
Yes. Owners can reply to a vouch through their secure edit link. Anyone can also add a profile-level Community Note for practical context or corrections.
What if I get a critical vouch?
+
Honest first-hand feedback can build credibility, even when it is not glowing. You can reply with context. Neighbors can mark it helpful or not helpful, and anyone can report abuse or information that appears false.
Who runs Genesis Local?
+
Genesis Local started as a small project born out of frustration with how broken the food system is. We're building it in the open, starting small with local farmers markets, farm stands, and roadside sellers, and growing through Genesis Local community ambassadors who believe local food deserves better than Yelp. The platform serves the community, not shareholders.
How is this different from Yelp or Google?
+
Yelp and Google are built for everything. Genesis Local is specifically for real local farmers, artisans, growers, bakers, ranchers, beekeepers, and craftspeople. Starter profiles are clearly labeled until claimed, neighbor vouches use real first names, and nobody can pay to show up first.
